The Engineer I, Power and Structures Engineer will apply engineering principles to power and substation structural design and perform other related engineering functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Design additions, expansions and improvements to substation ·structures and associated facilities which include installation of cable ducts, foundations, manholes, earth gradings/fillings, storm drainages, driveways, sanitary facilities, power transformers, circuit breakers, switches, etc.· and perform other related engineering functions. Prepare/approve specifications, requisitions, engineering designs, work orders and construction drawings; evaluate/recommend purchase of new equipment/materials; prepare cost estimates; check manufacturer's drawings/engineering calculations for accuracy, completeness and compliance with specifications. Conduct computerized engineering studies and analysis of structural/power designs. Coordinate departmental work with other Division areas/departments and outside agencies which include bid evaluation, problem solving, project construction status, etc. Make field trips to obtain data, observe construction and resolve construction/design problems; prepare/present requests and justifications for design changes to present/proposed facilities. Provide advice and power/ structural engineering design assistance to Division personnel and other requesting parties. Gather information from survey notes and instructions and provide engineering designs for various projects assigned. Study Engineering Progress, various rules, regulations, codes and construction methods to keep abreast of engineering changes. Prepare various records, reports and budgets. Perform other duties as directed.
